Introduction

TEDxSMU is an independently organized TED event sponsored by Southwestern Methodist University. 2010 is the second TEDxSMU event and the new program is titled "Starting Now". To enhance the experience, the organizers solicited proposals from local artists and groups to produce an installation art piece for TEDxSMU 2010. Dallas Makerspace submitted a proposal. The general idea was for an art piece that emphasized the theme of finite resources and survival.

Notes

I'm testing a Sabrent BT-USBT USB to Bluetooth adapter on Linux. So far it's working fine. Still need to do some testing with a Wii Remote though.

TuxPaint may be a good paint platform to base the software on

  • free software (and therefore open source) licensed under the GPL
  • designed for children and highly simplified with oversize icons
  • includes support for sound effects
  • already ported to nearly every OS
  • written in C so it should be easy to work with
